Lifethoughts
Lifethoughts are daily (or not) questions presented to us at the beginning of class. The subject fo these depends on what we are learning about and what we would be doing that day. They vary in length, as you can see. They are titled, Lifethought "#" and this comes from the dat. Like September 26, or 9-26 would be titled "Lifethought 926. Or December 1, would be "Lifethought 121.
Children's book
For this project, our team worked with the kindergarteners at High Tech Elementary North County. We would go over to their class once a week and help them or work on small assignments with them. We also taught them a couple lessons and brought them to our school a few times.
Our team took our kinder buddies on a hike and after the hike, our buddies chose native animals. My buddy chose the Anna's Hummingbird. So my group did research on the Anna's Hummingbird and make this page for the children's book.It shows the hummingbird's relationship to a competitor, predator and prey (a bee, a house cat and the monkeyflower. Video Lesson (And my honors project)

The video that I have linked above and to the right is both a normal class project in addition to my biology Project. For this project we were given a couple different options as to what the video's subject could be. The main one that was chosen was to talk about evolution, micro and macro evolution and how it works and things along those lines. This was not the route I chose to take. I thought making a video about the same subject as everyone else would be incredibly boring so I chose the option of picking and topic in the realm of science. I chose to do mine on the topic of phobias. Specifically talking about what a persons life is like while dealing with a phobia. I also included bits about how phobias are treated, and a couple different phobias. I focused on more interaction based phobias like gynophobia, a fear od women or autophobia, a fear of being alone. I focused mostly on social phobia or social anxiety. This was the most relatable and interesting phobia that I could look into. A friend of mine in my class made her video on phobias also, but hers was more focused on the science aspect and how it works inside the brain and the physical response to the object fo their phobia. All of the other students in my class had to make videos that were between 2 and 4 minutes and that was the cut off time, or how long it needed to be to pass depending how you look at it. They were required to spend only 5 total hours on their videos in total. But because my video was counting as my honors project as well as my normal class project, I was required to spend a minimum of 15 to 20 hours on my video. It also had to be substantially longer than all the others given my time. So my video ended up being about a 7 and a 1/4 minute video. This was a completely ridiculous process for making a school video. I spent probably 23 or more hours total on this video and that is a lot of time in a couple weeks. But I got it in. I started our doing a lot of research. Finding out everything that I could and then compiling it into one document. Then I had to arrange all of my information into a readable script that had flow and made sense. After more drafts than I would have liked, I was finished with the writing portion. Then I recorded the entire script into garage band. Then came editing this voice over track so there were to empty spaces and everything was placed in the right order. Once I had the voice over finished, I started looking for photos. Now this could sound really simple, but it was probably the most difficult part of the process, purely because it too so long to do so. I had to find, on average, two pictures per sentence and I had almost three pages of script. So I spent hours finding pictures. After they were found, I put them in iMovie and started editing the video together. I had to start by putting them all into he track , then I had to line everything up for timing. Then I added background music and I was finally finished. Most honors students have to give a presentation and teach a class lesson. I am so grateful that I just got to make a video instead. This may have been a lot of time, but it was time pretty well spent. |
